About Relationships and Frequencies in The Network Dream
The article Here’s the Pub, Church and Field for Public Sex published on October 7, 2010 in The New York Times points out the concept of “dogging” regarding the idea of having sex in public with people you have met in the web. It is becoming a usual practice in many places around the globe. People meet in the web, search and share common practices and then decide to take them into physical consideration in places where many agreed on as being the perfect scenarios for those activities. Sex is the question in this case, but if we consider a different activity we will acknowledge that it fits in the same structure without changing its logic: Artists to design a performance in the streets of London, Star Wars fans to mock their favorite scene at Washington Square Park in New York, etc.
There are different layers of information related to the new ways relationships happen thanks to the network scope: Connectivity of people, search of location, timing organization, search of interest, etc. All these vectors of information happened before the net-world began but they weren’t as free, open and large as they are now. And they are also under constant revision due to the “natural” forces that guide the social networks. In the Network Dream the revision of events and spaces should rearrange itself faster and more efficiently avoiding unnecessary impact on the society with completely different schedules. Are we talking once again on anarchy in the web? Those that think internet should organize itself without the need of rules but just by respecting your neighbor’s limits, versus the people believing in control and norms in the net considering that it is impossible to determine how the limits of respect could be defined. All this sounds too familiar.
Is the network going to modify the classic question of legal boundaries? Is it going to improve the conditions inside the pallet of freedom of expression in everyday life? The Network Dream is seen as a virtual tool capable of optimizing the space and time where the world could adapt and sustain various events without merging (if not compatible). Like architectural software testing a project on how it could improve its original design to meet with economic compatibilities, solar ambitions, structural logic, etc.
